Keeping the Spirit of Place Alive

Sofii Belling-Harding is a Yorta Yorta, Wiradjuri, South Sea and Meriam woman who has lived in Naarm on Wurundjeri Country all her life. She is a community arts worker and has her own show on 3CR Community Radio called B.I.T.E - Blak is the Essence. In this conversation, Sofii talks about the significance of Fitzroy (Melbourne) and the connections she has to other Aboriginal families in the community; her roots in the arts having grown up around artists, actors, playwrights and writers; and why she loves community radio as a space to express herself, connect with others, and stand up for community.

The song at the end is called 'Tongues' by Tanya Tagaq. From Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay, Nunavut), Tanya is an improvisational singer, avant-garde composer and bestselling author. She describes herself as "an original disruptor, a world-changing figure at the forefront of seismic social, political and environmental change".
