What's in your grocery shopping trolley?: the rise and rise of nano-materials in food

Monday, 14 March 2016 - 10:30am to 11:00am

Friends of the Earth recently published test results showing that – contrary to the claims of our food regulator Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) – nano-materials are present in foods in Australia. They are widespread, untested, unapproved and unlabelled, despite us having laws that require novel food ingredients such as these to go through pre-market safety testing and approval.

Take good science. Add public servants corrupted by extreme free market ideologies, dependence on corporate funding, political interference and a belief that the interests of big business equals the public interest and out the other end pops regulation – or lack of it.

This week Dirt Radio talks to Jeremy Tager from FoE's Emerging Tech Project to find out more.
