3CR has a number of special broadcasts each year to celebrate important community activist events. These broadcasts are staged at live events around Melbourne or in the studios of 3CR in Fitzroy.

Beyond the Bars

Beyond the Bars is a unique series of live prison radio broadcasts that give voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inmates in Victorian prisons. The broadcasts are presented by 3CR's First Nations broadcasters during NAIDOC* Week (July). Beyond the Bars began in 2002 and each year it features songs, stories, opinions and poems from the men and women inside, while also connecting them with culture and community. *National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee

Survival Day 2012

This annual broadcast by 3CR's Indigenous broadcasters marks Australia's Invasion Day. Indigenous activists have broadcast at 3CR from the year 3CR began in1976. Tune in on 26 January each year and hear the truth about Australia's ongoing colonialism and the current campaigns to right past wrongs.

Each year on May 1, International Workers Day, communities from around the world join in to celebrate the achievements of the labour movement and to show solidarity with the continued struggle for labour rights everywhere.
Occupy Melbourne

3CR has a long history of presenting live coverage of union and social justice protests, blockades and occupations including the Honeymoom Mine occupation, the nurses dispute (including the 2012 nurses dispute), the MUA picket, the S11 World Economic Forum protests, Occupy Melbourne and more recently the TAFE4ALL campaign.

Delicious free breakfast at the Sustainable Broadcasts

Together with Friends of the Earth, 3CR Breakfast programmers present a series of live shows with delicious free breakfasts from the FoE Food Coop and Organic Cafe at 312 Smith Street Fitzroy. Each year in March, join us for a week of live, local radio in the City of Yarra, a delicious free breakfast and great local music.
Visioning Justice Team

Visioning Justice is a vibrant collection of short radio documentaries made by young people about a range of experiences with the law. A partnership between Springvale Monash Legal Service and 3CR Community Radio and funded through the Legal Services Board Grants Program, the project aims to get young people's stories onto the air-waves.
