This show was recorded outside the US Bangor-Kitsap Navy Base, home to the biggest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world, and the location of a planned Peace Pagoda. The former Pagoda was burnt down by Navy personnel 33 years ago. We speak to Senji Kanaida, a Nipponzan-Myōhōji monk originally from Japan, about protests at the base and the broader peace movements in both Japan and the US. He reflects on the role of religion in both the Japanese and US peace movements as well as the complicated relationship between the 2 nations since World War Two.
