Marisa interviewed David Glan from the Refugee action Collective on some good news regarding the Migration Amendment (Prohibiting Items in Immigration Detention Facilities) Bill 2020, which would have given sweeping, unchecked powers to the Minister for Home Affairs to ban almost any item in detention, including mobile phones, and vastly expand the search and seizure powers of private security contractors.
Marisa then interviewed Dr Maria O'Sullivan Senior Lecturer Faculty of Law and a member of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law at Monash University, on the right to protest in a Pandemic. She talked about how public health imperatives need to be balanced against the right to protest and the discussion also included the criminalization of dissent. Dr. Maria also spoke more generally about the covid Restriction such as the recent challenge to the curfew heard in the Victorian Supreme Court last week.
