Greenland overturned a ban on uranium mining in a controversial parliamentary vote in 2013, and an Australian company has been leading the charge by pursuing a uranium mine project at Kvanefjeld. The people of Baker Lake have had a recent win with the Nunavut Impact Review Board concluding that uranium mining will not be allowed to proceed at this time, effectively shelving Areva's plans to mine at Kiggavik, 70km away.
