Formed in 1985 in Melbourne, Australia, Tyrnaround were an underrated Melbourne band who specialised in 60s psych pop/rock, influenced by Syd Barrett, The Seeds, The Beatles at their most lysergic, garage punk and classic psych.
If they’d lived and played in the UK they would have been huge.
The band were Peter Fidler on guitar, Ken Gardner keyboards, drummer Gavin Gray, singer Michael Phillips, and Leigh Underhill on bass.
They released the 4 track EP 'Colour Your Mind' in 1986 on Cleopatra Records. Moving to PolyEster records they released singles Want of a rhyme, Uncle Sydney and the album 'Succeeds When Daylight Fails’.
In 2019 Guerssen Records re-issued Colour Your Mind expanding it to a full length album.
Special mention goes to Dave Hannan, Ray Anderson, Rob Zucca and Leigh Underhill for their production contributions that helped Tyrnaround produce such polished recordings.
Tyrnaround disbanded due to the death of their lead singer Michael Phillips.
