The Glorious Dead is a stunning, long-awaited album by Belle Phoenix and The Subterranean Sea.
Belle Phoenix, an Australian-Finnish artist living in Finland, began recording the album in New York with the renowned musical director Mark Plati (David Bowie, Lou Reed). Upon returning to Australia, she teamed up with Trent Marden of The Holy Soul to record at the iconic Albert Music Studio, the legendary birthplace of the Easybeats.
After playing gigs in Toronto and the UK while juggling two part-time jobs—working at a laundrette and a burger joint—she returned to Melbourne to play live shows and complete The Glorious Dead.
The final recording sessions took place in various studios in Melbourne, with production by Andrew McCubbin and a final mix by Lindsay Gravina. The album also features a stellar lineup of musicians, including O.A. Bickford on guitar, Tim O'Shannassy on drums (from the Brian Henry Hooper Band), Julitha Ryan on cello, Lethesflood WI on violin, Jeff Samin on bass, and Joe Dwyer on guitar.
